One Night (BBC1)

This four part drams series starts on BBC1 on Monday 26 March 2012 at 10.35pm and continues on Tuesday 27 March, Wednesday 28 March and Friday 30 March.  One Night  tells the story of one night from four different perpsectives.

Episode 1

The first episode features bespoke kitchen salesman Ted (Douglas Hodge) as a man who considers nothing too trivial to worry about but he believes that at 50 his future might be the dole queue. So to impress his boss Kenny (Neil Stuke) he is throwing a barbecue – and it has to be a complete success.

When a teenage girl with a gang of her mates from the estate nearby refuse to pick up a piece of litter and hurl abuse at him outside his house, Ted takes action.

He reports her to her head teacher and the girl is suspended. But that evening at the barbecue Ted starts to believe that he is being targeted for revenge. He shares his suspicions with his guests who at first are amused by this ‘typical Ted’ behaviour – but events escalate and the house is attacked and his wife Sally injured.

Ted catches a young teenage lad from the nearby estate whom he believes is responsible and drags him into his garden to wait for the police. However, Sally thinks that it will be Ted who will face prosecution for false imprisonment and assault and put them at risk of real revenge from older members of the boy’s gang.

As Ted realises that Kenny and Kenny’s wife Dawn (Kellie Bright) also think he is in the wrong Ted gets increasingly wound up and comes to blows with his boss. When he recovers and calms down Ted realises that he is the one who is out of control. Determined to make amends for what he has done Ted now sets out to do the right thing – a course that will end in tragedy.

Episode Two

Today is the day of Danny’s funeral who was killed by a rival gang. As a result of suspension from school for bad behaviour Rochelle risks her academically bright future by going to see her secret boyfriend, on rival gang territory, the night before her critical exam.

Episode Three

This is the day that Carol intends to fulfil her secret ambition. However, it is also the day she discovers her eldest son Jake is back to his gang life-style and her ‘Oxford hopeful’ daughter Rochelle has been suspended from school – forcing Carol to make the most critical decision of her life.

Episode Four

Today is Alfie’s 13th birthday and, if he passes his initiation test, he will get to join the Lakemead T’ugs; the people he most respects and the gang who rule the neighbourhood. However, Alfie is about to discover the gulf between his own delinquent behaviour and what it is they expect him to do.
